British campaign terms, plainly explained.

The official list of all registered electors in a local authority area, maintained by the Electoral Registration Officer. The full register is available to candidates and registered political parties. A redacted open register is available commercially. Cadrify imports the full register matched to the correct ward vintage.

The basic geographic unit for British local government elections. Each council ward elects one or more councillors. Ward boundaries change periodically through boundary reviews, and each version is identified by its GSS code rather than its name.

The geographic area that elects one MP to the House of Commons under First Past the Post. Also called a Westminster constituency or WMC. Cadrify identifies constituencies by their GSS code (e.g. WMC-E14000639).

In British local government, any local authority area: a London borough, metropolitan district, unitary authority or district council.

Local Authority District. The statistical name for the level above ward: includes London boroughs, metropolitan districts, unitary authorities and non-metropolitan districts. Used in official data releases and GSS code series.

Government Statistical Service geographic identifier. A unique code assigned to every ward, LAD, constituency and other official geographic area in Britain, issued and maintained by the ONS. Cadrify joins all geographic data by GSS code rather than name to avoid collisions between identically-named wards in different districts.

A sub-ward area used to allocate electors to a specific polling station. Polling district boundaries are set by the local returning officer and can differ from ward boundaries.

The building where electors cast their votes on election day, typically a school hall, library or community centre. Cadrify tracks polling station assignments in the GOTV module.

The formal documents a candidate must submit to the returning officer to stand in an election, including the nomination form and the consent to nomination. Cadrify generates nomination paperwork from your register data using the addresses and electoral numbers it already holds.

The electoral register exists in two forms. The full register includes every registered elector and is restricted to candidates, parties, credit agencies and certain official bodies. The open register (formerly the edited register) is an opt-out redacted version available commercially. Cadrify works with the full register.

Visiting electors at home to speak to them and record their level of support. Also called door-knocking. Data recorded on the doorstep flows back to the campaign database in real time on Cadrify. The product uses door-knocker rather than door-knocker, in line with British field practice.

A 1-5 ordinal scale used to record support at the doorstep. 1 = strong supporter, 2 = leaning supporter, 3 = undecided, 4 = leaning opponent, 5 = strong opponent. G-scores are the primary input for GOTV prioritisation: knock-up lists are generated from G-1 and G-2 contacts.

A geographic unit of door-knocking or leaflet delivery, typically a street or small cluster of streets assigned to one volunteer. Cadrify generates rounds from ward boundaries and tracks each one: assigned, in progress, done. Also called a walk or a turf in some organisations; Cadrify uses round.

Systematic delivery of printed campaign material to every address in a ward or round. Cadrify plans, assigns and tracks delivery round by round, and can print or export address lists for each.

Polling day field operations: tellers at polling stations recording who has voted, knock-up teams visiting known supporters who have not yet voted, and a count verification team at the close of poll. Cadrify's GOTV module manages all three from a single campaign.

Visiting known supporters on election day to remind them to vote. Knock-up lists are generated from teller data cross-referenced with door-knock G-scores. A core GOTV activity in all British campaigns.

A teller is a campaign volunteer who stands at the polling station entrance on election day and records the electoral numbers of electors as they enter to vote. Teller data is returned to campaign HQ throughout the day and cross-referenced with door-knock returns to identify supporters who have not yet voted, building the knock-up list.

A team of campaign scrutineers at the count who verify the official count: checking bundles of votes, monitoring the sorting and counting process and calling any discrepancies. Cadrify tracks count verification assignments.

Calling registered electors by phone to door-knock support or, on polling day, to reach GOTV contacts who have not answered the door. Cadrify's phonebanking module assigns calls, records responses and tracks completion.

A campaign where your team actively collects door-knock data, runs leaflet rounds and manages GOTV operations. Target campaigns count toward the target-elector usage charge. Most active ward campaigns will be set as target campaigns.

A campaign used only to generate candidate nomination forms and council compliance paperwork. Paper campaigns do not count toward the usage charge. Use paper campaigns for wards where you are standing a candidate but not running a field operation.

A campaign in early build-up, being prepared ahead of an active push. Development campaigns count toward the target-elector usage charge alongside target campaigns.

An elector in a target or development campaign. Your total target elector count determines which pricing band applies to your account each month. Electors in paper campaigns are not counted. The count resets monthly based on the current state of your campaigns.

The organisational unit in Cadrify. Branches form a tree: a national party can have regional groups, which contain local branches. Permissions and geographic areas are inherited down the tree, so access granted at a parent level flows to all children.
